Mark Foley, CFA is Managing Director – Natural Resources at Domain Timber Advisors, LLC, a SEC-registered investment adviser and a subsidiary of Domain Capital Group. Mr. Foley is responsible for development and execution of business strategy, quantitative and qualitative investment analysis of the forestland and environmental investment programs.
Prior to joining Domain Timber Advisors, Mr. Foley’s career included several years as an analyst with Tasman Pulp & Paper, Fletcher Challenge Paper and PaperExchange. While at Fletcher Challenge Paper, Mr. Foley was on the transaction team for the $2.5 billion sale of the company to Norske Skog.
Mr. Foley also served as forestry portfolio analyst at GMO LLC from 2001 to 2008 where he worked directly with the firm’s partners in raising capital, marketing, structuring, and investing efforts related to the capitalization of eight private equity funds. He also developed and implemented a consistent, uniformed approach to analyze, monitor and report on domestic and international timber portfolios internally and externally. During his eight years with GMO, Mr. Foley was the senior transaction analyst relating to acquisitions valued at $2.5 billion and dispositions totaling $650 million with both a domestic and international focus.
Mr. Foley also performed in-depth quantitative and qualitative due diligence and investment valuations relating to potential acquisitions. He implemented a standardized monitoring and return analysis system, covering investment level, fund level and composite performance analysis, with an emphasis on understanding sources of value creation for their $3.3 billion timberland portfolio. Most recently at US Trust since 2009, Mr. Foley was responsible for the sourcing, acquisition, and for the on-going management of $370 million of timberland assets held in investment and trust accounts. Mr. Foley was also involved in the $720 million capital raising process at US Trust and Merrill Lynch from institutional and ultra high-net-worth clients.
Mr. Foley received a Bachelors in Commerce in Economics & Finance and a Masters in Commerce in Economics from the University of Auckland. He received his Chartered Financial Analyst designation from the CFA Institute in 2006.
